If we wish to Journey with GenZ we must recognize the world GenZ has grown up in. It is a world riddled with climate crises, political polarization, endless digital noise, and deepening isolation. Please pause, and put yourself in their shoes. Pause and lament, pause and pray.

As we ask the Spirit to see the world through their eyes, let us also feel the ache and longing in their hearts for a King that does not lie, and a Kingdom that is solid ground. Let us join them in their lament.

This lament can be used with others, or on your own. It was adapted by Jessie Cruickshank from a prayer in Every Moment Holy, Volume 2.

Lamentations of a Generation

(Leader) We cry out for a world on fire where there seems to be no water to put it out.

(People) LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER

We cry for a people dehumanized and taken advantage of by technology, by technocrats, and algorithms designed to brainwash by the whims of influencers.

LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER

We cry out for a world, animals, plants and insects, who have been liquefied for shareholder profit.

LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER

How long, oh Lord, must the world be on fire?

How long must we sit under the spirit of power and oppression?

How long, oh Lord, must we endure the unrepentant sins of others?

We are anxious about everything and desperate for peace.

How long must we suffer before we know the redemption of this suffering?

How long must we drink from this well of sorrow? How long till our tears are tended by Your own hands?

How long, oh Lord, until you have finished Your final work, crushing all evidence of darkness that overshadows us in these chaotic times?

How long, until Your sovereign will is finally fulfilled as perfectly and completely on earth as it is in heaven?

Let it be this year, this day, this hour oh Christ!

We have suffered in this night for so long. Call forth Your light. Bring on the dawn!

Come quickly, Lord Jesus!

We believe Your promises.

We watch for you to move.

O Lord, come quickly!

Take the time you need to lament. And then, when you’re ready, also consider what is so hopeful about this Generation.

Jessie Cruickshank, the All Nations KC Board Member who adapted this prayer and who has studied GenZ extensively, says,

“Gen Z is coming of age at a pivotal time in history. They are aware of and care about the many crises shaping their future. From intense polarization to the climate crisis, they are stepping into a world lost and desperate. Institutions have failed the moment. But God is uniquely positioning Gen Z to meet this moment with love and the hope of the Gospel.”

We recognize the challenges of GenZ days, and we also celebrate the unique design of GenZ, and the destiny God has for them in the nations.

If you want to bless GenZ, would you consider a gift to link arms and journey with GenZ toward the completion of the Great Commission? God has uniquely prepared those in GenZ to carry His love to all nations in the turbulent world we inhabit! Your gift will steady and strengthen those in GenZ, and amplify God’s call on their lives to the nations! Give today!

Your gift will be used to mobilize, train, and send the next generation to the nations.
