Seven Commands of Jesus

When we make disciples, we want them to be people who obey Jesus’ commands. With 684 commands in the New Testament, where do we start? We have summarized all of these commands into these seven basic commands:

ONE: Repent, Believe, and Receive the Holy Spirit

What does it look like to help new believers repent? And how do we help them to receive Holy Spirit and operate in his anointing? Acts 2:38 says, “Reconsider your lives; change your direction. Then your sins will be forgiven, and the gift of the Holy Spirit will be yours.” These are important questions and one scripture we study to help believers obey Jesus’ first basic command. TWO: Be Baptized

What actually happens in baptism? When and how should we baptize? Acts 8:36 says, “And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and he said, “See, here is water! THREE: Break Bread

FOUR: Love God, Your Neighbor, Other Believers, and Your Enemies

What are some key ways we can help new Jesus-followers to live a life of love? What are some challenges we face in building disciplines of love into our life? How can we learn to love even our worst enemies? In Matthew 22:36-40, Jesus names this as the greatest command! FIVE: Pray

How did Jesus teach us to pray? What does it mean to pray in the name of Jesus? In John 14:13-14, Jesus says, “‘And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. SIX: Give

What kind of giving does Jesus want to see? Who can do it? Jesus teaches on this topic while observing people give in the temple in Mark 12:41-44. SEVEN: Go and Make Disciples

How should we share our faith? With whom? What training do we need to make disciples? In Mark 5:1-20 Jesus guides the man who was just feed from a legion of demons on how to make disciples.
